Project Statement
Canada has been called as one of the safest countries in the world for decades, and Toronto is also often voted as one of the safest cities in the world. But behind the glamorous rankings, youth violence has been plaguing Canadian parents, Governments and Society for a long time.
The problem of youth violence in Canada has been around for a long time. The root of this problem is not only about young people themselves, but every teenager is also good. The root of the problem comes from the society.
The government has the responsibility to let our next generation grow up in a safe environment. Nowadays, News about gun violence and youth gangs have become more frequently than before. Many people think that the current generation of young people isthe “lost” generation, but in fact, these teenagers need the help and understanding from the society the most.
To maintain the safe city title, there are still many things we need to do. Communities, schools and society, should provide more help to make teenagers play an active role in helping Toronto maintain the safe city title. This assignment focuses on youth violence in Canada, understanding the causes behind these violent issues and exploring the potential needs of these young people from both social and government assistance.

These years, more and more youth gangs start to appear in Toronto’s communities, along with more school violence and other serious violence problems. Many teenagers’ lives have totally changed after they joined the gangs.
Segun Akinsanya wrote a story about himself, telling how a kid who won prizes at school gradually became a murderer after joining the gangs. A true story that happened in Toronto.

Interventions & Deliverables
Government
Government plays the leading role of the tripartite organization. It could send more police and security around the school, provides psychological counselling to the family which needs help. Reinforce the control over guns and drugs, strengthen the supervision of cyberspace. Also, establish a foundation within the organization, and it grants incentives to the families whose kids perform well at the school or the community.
Family
The community could observe the family situation regularly, check if the family needs help and provide protection and help in time. Take certain necessary and appropriate measures to ensure security and safeguard law, such as install cameras and deploying security guards for more frequent patrol. Give lectures about youth violence in the community, let people be aware of the problem and give more focus on it. Promoting scientific parenting method, and tell the importance of being accompanied with their children.
School
Young people spend most of their time in school. Schools could provide various activities to make them get involved. As well as provide the relative psychological course and opportunities for students to talk with the psychologist, which could help them to solve their problems in time. Moreover, schools could pay more attention to the students who have some issues, and report their situation to the government.
Implementation Plan & Timeline

Reflection
My main role in this group is the Group Leader, by convening a meeting of the group members, and assigning tasks to them to complete this assignment.
Through this group assignment, I learned the practical application of UX research and the importance of understanding user needs.
In this group assignment, two of the team members had a little conflict, but under my mediation, the conflict was resolved.
When one of the team members returned to China due to an accident at home, we immediately activated the backup plan and changed the original need the in person interview was changed to a questionnaire, and in the end this assignment got a high score.
